As we come to the close of the year, we are filled with gratitude and excitement for what the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium has become and where we are headed together.
This has been a year of never before seen success. Record shattering years, months, and even single day attendance reflect something truly special.
Our community is rediscovering Calusa as the gem it is. Families from across Southwest Florida are visiting, getting involved, and finding a place where nature, learning, and inspiration come together in meaningful ways. Calusa has become a place to rejoice, to explore, and to be inspired like never before.
Thanks to your support, we also completed critical new roofing projects, ensuring the long term care of our animals, exhibits, and educational spaces. These improvements, along with renewed energy and engagement, helped propel Calusa forward and reaffirm its role as a vital community resource.
This momentum has not gone unnoticed. A recent News Press story highlighted Calusa’s journey “back from the brink,” recognizing the resilience, teamwork, and community belief that made this turnaround possible. It is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together around a shared vision. https://www.news-press.com/story/news/environment/2025/10/03/nature-fights-back-calusas-wild-comeback-in-fort-myers-florida/85321033007/
As we look toward 2026, we are excited to continue building on this success. Plans are underway to repair and repair the boardwalk, expand improvements throughout the grounds, and ensure Calusa remains a place that launches our vision boldly into the future and beyond.
We are deeply thankful for your belief, your involvement, and your generosity. With your continued support, Calusa will remain a place where families across Southwest Florida connect with nature, learn together, and feel inspired for generations to come.
Wishing you a Happy New Year and many meaningful moments at Calusa in the year ahead.
With gratitude,
Eric Raddatz

It’s great to look ahead to 2026, but don't forget to recharge your batteries first! I’ve been playing Fish Eat Fish to clear my head lately—it’s super chill and a perfect little escape when you need a break from planning.
If I were designing the 'Year in Review' report for Calusa, I’d use a linear gradient tool to represent our journey. I’d start with a 'Deep Navy' at the beginning of 2025—representing our solid, grounded foundation—and transition into a 'Vibrant Amber' for 2026. It symbolizes the bright future and the energy we’re bringing into this new chapter.
